St. Peter’s United Church of Christ Christian Education Department
Welcome to Sunday school at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ. We meet beginning the second Sunday in September through the third Sunday in May from 9:30 to 10:30 on the second, third, fourth and any fifth Sunday of the month. The first Sunday of the month from 9:30 to 10:30 is Family Worship. This is an opportunity for the children to experience a church service. Rev. Mark sets aside a few moments with the children during worship to interact with them.
During the summer months we have “Son”shine church on the same Sundays as Sunday school. The children attend church, meet with Rev. Mark for children’s time and then go to the Sunday school room for a story, craft and snack.
Students from three years old through 3rd grade meet upstairs with Cathy Dutro. We begin our morning with Devotions. We sing songs, share our joys and concerns, greet one another, collect an offering, and end with the Lord’s Prayer. Next, we hear a story from the Bible. The curriculum we use is Feasting on the Word, and follows the Revised Common Lectionary. Following our lesson the children make a craft that ties into the lesson learned from the Bible story. We also have a snack, usually a few cookies and juice. (Please inform us of any allergies.) We ask parents to come to the room to pick-up their child(ren).
Students in 4th through 8th grade meet downstairs in the Youth room with Jennifer Stephen or T-Kay Nagy. They use the Tween version of the curriculum which focuses on challenging the students to put their faith into action. These students also have available a youth group that usually meets the first Sunday of each month following worship service.
